Is Conventional Galvanize Obsolete?

Oftentimes when something new replaces something old, it renders the old thing obsolete. If only a light coating of zinc on a strip in conjunction with InterCoat®ChemGuard is needed to prevent rust, the standard method of using heavy zinc coating is rendered no longer necessary.  If the corrosion protection is better and cheaper and uses dramatically less zinc, there’s no logical reason to continue using the outdated method.

Every technological change brings obsolescence or it isn’t much of a change. A standard practice is replaced by a new standard practice, generally because the new practice is better, less expensive, more efficient or a clearly superior method. InterCoat®ChemGuard is all of them.

If you’re still applying heavy weight zinc coatings (above G30 for HDG), if you are buying or selling heavy zinc coatings, or if you are manufacturing products using heavy zinc coatings, it may be time to rethink the effectiveness of your company’s strategy. Until now there was no choice; to obtain satisfactory corrosion protection you had to add zinc, but with the new technology provided by InterCoat®ChemGuard that is no longer the case.
